Telehealth Visits

What is a telehealth visit?

Utilizing a HIPPA compliant "face-time" technology, we are able to easily do face-to-face visits with our patients rather than being seen in our office. Instead of coming to our office, this offers our patients flexibility by having a virtual office visit right in the privacy of their own home, at work or on the go. If a medical issue requires a physical exam, then the visit will have to be done in-office as a regular medical visit. It is essential we have the most current contact information (mobile number and/or email address) to make the telehealth visit possible.

Are telehealth visits covered by my insurance?

Insurance coverage for telehealth varies by each individual healthcare plan. A fee may be collected at the time of scheduling the telehealth visit. The visit is then billed to the patient's insurance plan. Any copays, deductibles or co-insurance may apply as dictated by the insurance plan. Some insurance plans do not cover telehealth visits and the cost is the responsibility of the patient. It is the patient's responsibility to check with their individual healthcare plan to determine if a telehealth visit is covered by their plan. If the telehealth visit is determined by the insurance company to be a co-pay, deductible or co-insurance, then the patient will be responsible for the full amount as determined by the insurance company.
Because our office cannot predict what insurance plans will or will not cover telehealth visits, it is the patient's responsibility to call their insurance company before the visit and find out what their out-of-pocket costs will be.

How are telehealth visits scheduled?

We book appointments for every telehealth visit. Call our office to schedule an appointment just like you would a regular in-office appointment. Please tell our staff at the time of scheduling if you would like to schedule a telehealth visit so the appropriate type of appointment can be arranged for you.

How does the telehealth visit work?

Our office sends the patient a link via text or email before the appointment is scheduled. A few minutes before the scheduled appointment time, the patient clicks on the link via a smart phone or computer and will be taken to a virtual waiting room where the patient will be connected with one of our providers to have a face-to-face video medical visit. The visit is the same as an in-office visit, however, only a limited exam can be performed. A detailed physical exam requires an in-office visit.

How long do the telehealth visits last?

Telehealth visits typically last up to 15 minutes. Additional time may require a second telehealth visit to be scheduled at a later time.

What happens if I have to change or cancel my appointment time?

We ask for at least 24 hours notice to change or cancel any appointment to avoid a late cancellation fee of $50.

What if I forget about my telehealth visit I have scheduled?

A link to the telehealth visit will be sent via a text or email before the scheduled appointment as a reminder. If the patient still forgets to be present for the virtual visit, a $50 fee will be charged.
